The TickerSerena Williams will remain No. 1 after defeating sister Venus 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the Miami semifinals.

The TickerFernando Verdasco, on the injury that affected him during a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Andy Murray in the Miami quarterfinals: "I had this problem in my gluteals in the second game of the match, and after that, it was tough, to keep in the match, to put pressure on him.

"It was one backhand cross that he made so short. He opened the court so much. I went out of the court to the take it, and just in one movement that I stretch so much I just feel it."

The TickerJuan Martin del Potro, on what he was thinking down 3-0 in the third set against Rafael Nadal: "I start to enjoy the match, the people, the crowds, the quarterfinals. And I start to play more relax and more aggressive, too. Then the match going different. I broke his serve at 3-0, and then 3-2. When I was 5-4, I say, 'Now I can beat him.' That's was a big difference in my mind.

The TickerRafael Nadal, after losing to Juan Martin del Potro: "I think he didn't play one of his best matches, no? That's what I feel... But I think he played well. His level is 7 of the world, no, so he's very good. I think he didn't play an unbelievable match, but I didn't play on my best level today."

Del Potro: "I played unbelievable. I beat the No. 1 of the world. If you don't play unbelievable, you cannot beat him."

The TickerJuan Martin del Potro has upset Rafael Nadal 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(3) in the Miami quarterfinals, coming from two breaks down in the third set and a minibreak in the deciding tiebreaker.

From 0-3 in the third set, Del Potro won six of the next eight games and held three match points on the world No. 1's serve at 5-6. But some clutch serving from Nadal and some nervous forehands from the Argentine sent the set into a tiebreak, where Nadal briefly regained the advantage with a lucky netcord that put him up a minibreak at 3-2. But Del Potro rallied again, taking five points in a row to clinch the victory.

Nadal described losing his substantial third-set lead as an "amazing disaster" while del Potro called the win the biggest of his career – "of course."

The TickerVictoria Azarenka is in the final of Miami after defeating Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. "It's really big, because it's first final in such a big tournament for me," said Azarenka. "It's the biggest moment, I would say, in my career."

The TickerAna Ivanovic has hired Craig Kardon on a permanent basis, following a six-week trial period that began during the WTA event in Dubai.

The TickerKei Nishikori has pulled out of Houston with an arm injury. Robby Ginepri will also miss the tournament, still sidelined after undergoing an emergency appendectomy.

The TickerThe Davis Cup committee has fined the Swedish Tennis Association $25,000 and banned the city of Malmo from hosting a Davis Cup tie for five years. In March, the Malmo city council decided to hold Sweden's first-round tie against Israel behind closed doors, citing security concerns about demonstrators protesting against Israel's military action in Gaza.

The ITF also announced that "Sweden will suffer an automatic loss of Choice of Ground for the next tie if a similar situation occurs in the future."

In addition, Sweden will still be required to pay the ITF its share of (planned) ticket sales, which amounts to $15,000.
