The TickerAfter Marcel Granollers' 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 loss to Tommy Haas, all eight seeds are out of Houston before the quarterfinals. Granollers was the sixth seed and defending champion.

However, three former top 10 players who are currently out of the top 80 -- Haas, Lleyton Hewitt and Guillermo Canas -- remain in the tournament.

The TickerJuan Carlos Ferrero says Marat Safin's impending retirement has prompted him to think along the same lines. "The motivation is not there after 11 years," said Ferrero, adding that he will make a decision at the end of the year about whether to play for another season.

The former French Open champ, currently ranked No. 115, returned to the tour in Casablanca this week after an abductor problem kept him sidelined during March. Ferrero is 29, the same age as Safin.

Ferrero said that when he does retire, he would like to help train young players and become more involved in his hometown tournament in Valencia, as well as the hotel he owns there.

The TickerA European Union panel will announce next week that "many aspects" of the WADA wherebouts rule "contravened EU laws on data protection, privacy and freedom," reports Reuters.

As implemented by tennis' anti-doping program, the whereabouts rule requires the Top 50 players on the ATP and WTA tours to provide information about where they will be for one hour each day so they can be located for unannounced drug testing.

The TickerRafael Nadal confirms that he will play Queen's as warm-up for Wimbledon, keeping the same schedule as last year when he won both events. Nadal told the AEGON Championships in an interview that he had recently seen last year's legendary Wimbledon final on tape for the first time.

"I remember I had a lot of nerves the night before the match,” he said. “And then, during the match there were a lot of emotions. In the beginning, I had the match [under control] and I had match points. But he came back very good in the third and fourth sets and had the break point in the fifth set at 4-3. He had his chance there. I saw the match on TV for the first time last week. It was really amazing."

The TickerRoger Federer has taken a wildcard into Monte Carlo.

The TickerA decision on whether the India vs. Australia zonal tie will be played in Chennai is expected next week. ITF security officials visited the site this week following Tennis Australia's request that the tie be moved because of security concerns.

The TickerAfter winning her WTA debut, 14-year-old American wildcard Madison Keys loses 6-3, 6-2 to top seed Nadia Petrova in Ponte Vedra Beach.
