The TickerTommy Haas, after losing 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the Houston quarterfinals to Bjorn Phau: "I'm thankful for the wild card. I got to play a couple of matches on clay but I'm sick of losing after 13 years. I want to get my team together and see what happens. I have a hard time playing here. Every time you go for a shot it is risky. He moves better than I do so he has a better chance to get back on the points. To tell you the truth, I'm glad it's over."

The TickerSerena Williams has pulled out of Charleston. "I am unable to compete this year at the Family Circle Cup as I need to give my leg injury time to heal," said Williams in a statement released by tournament organizers. " will still be coming to Charleston next week to support the tournament, but hope to be back on its clay courts next year."

The TickerRichard Gasquet is out of Monte Carlo with an ongoing shoulder injury. Jean-Rene Lisnard of Monaco, Ivan Ljubicic and Lleyton Hewitt have been given wildcards.
