The TickerFed Cup semifinal results:
ITA-RUS 2-0: The Italians take a surprising lead after the first day's play, with Flavia Pennetta dominating Anna Chakvetadze 6-4, 6-0 and Francesca Schiavone pulling out a 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 win against Svetlana Kuznetsova. The Italians need only one more point from tomorrow's reverse singles and doubles matches to reach their third final in four years
CZE-USA 1-1: Petra Kvitova defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-3, 7-6(2) to put the hosts up 1-0, with Alexa Glatch levelling the tie with an unexpected 6-1, 6-2 domination of Iveta Benesova.

World Group playoff results:

ESP-SER 0-2: Jelena Jankovic defeated Maria-Jose Martinez-Sanchez 6-3, 6-4 and Ana Ivanovic got through Anabel Medina Garrigues 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 to put Serbia in commanding position ahead of the reverse singles.

FRA-SVK 1-1: Tough battles were the feature of the day, with Daniela Hantuchova defeating Alize Cornet 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-4 and
Amelie Mauresmo winning 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 over Dominika Cibulkova.

GER-CHN 2-0: The Germans took a pair of three-set contests to put themselves firmly in the lead – Sabine Lisicki defeated Jie Zheng 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 and Anna-Lena Groenefeld outlasted Shuai Peng 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

ARG-UKR 0-2: The hosts had an unsuccessful day, with the visiting Ukrainians taking both opening singles. Mariya Kortyyseva won 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 against Jorgelina Cravero and Alona Bondarenko 6-3, 6-3 against Maria Irigoyen.


The TickerRome draw here. Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray are in the top half, with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in the bottom half.

First round highlights include Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs. Richard Gasquet.
