The TickerAs a result of Novak Djokovic's loss in the final of Rome, Andy Murray will become No. 3 in a week's time. It will be the highest a British player has reached since the ATP rankings were established.

The TickerPost-match reaction from Novak Djokovic: "When I needed to stay a little bit more patient and just play the right shots, I made some unforced errors – in the tie-break on the second and third point. It’s happened a couple of times already on this surface that I'm close, and in the deciding moments he just overcomes the pressure better than me."

The TickerDavid Nabandian's hip injury will not require surgery and he will play Estoril next week.

The TickerGaston Gaudio wins the Tunis challenger, defeating Frederico Gil 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.

The TickerRafael Nadal wins a record fourth title in Rome, defeating Novak Djokovic 7-6(2), 6-2 in the final. He also recorded his 30th straight match win on clay.

Nadal now has 15 Masters Series crowns, one more than Roger Federer and just two less than Andre Agassi's record 17 Masters titles.


The TickerDefeating Dinara Safina 6-4, 6-3 in Stuttgart, Svetlana Kuznetsova wins her first title since New Haven in 2007 (and her first in a completed final since Beijing 2006 -- Agnes Szavay retired in the second set of the New Haven final after winning the first set).

From 2007 to 2008, Kuznetsova went 1-10 in WTA finals.

"At the beginning today I was a little bit nervous," said Kuznetsova. "It's tough for me to play finals; I haven't won too many of them lately. But I started playing better and better as the match went on and I was able to win."


The TickerAnabel Medina Garrigues wins the ninth title of her career, defeating Ekaterina Makarova 6-0, 6-1in Fes.

The TickerFernando Gonzalez will miss Munich because of an ankle injury and may be in doubt for the French Open. Gonzalez reached the semifinals of Rome, losing to Nadal.

The TickerVenus Williams says she and sister Serena are interested in playing for the U.S. in the Fed Cup final against Italy in November. "I would love to play in the final. Serena and I would both love to play," Venus said in Rome. "We talked about it, and we just have to stay healthy. I really hope we can both play. It will be great for the U.S."

The TickerLauren Embree, 18, has won the women's USTA French Open reciprocal wildcard playoffs. Embree, who had planned to compete in the juniors event, will now recieve a wildcard into the main draw.

The TickerTwo sisters, Karli and Tanya Timko, have won the boys doubles title in the Pittsburgh region's high school league.

The pair decided to compete in the boys division of the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League tennis competition after the girls' event was discontinued.

"A lot of the boys have been good sports but there have been a couple sour apples," Karli Timko told a local newspaper.


The TickerAna Ivanovic comes in at No. 32 and Jelena Dokic No. 93 on FHM Australia's list of 100 sexiest women.
